Matetsi Hunting Area (Extended Conservation Area)

Within the Matetsi ECA are individual communities, each with a hunting quota for their area. Lowveld Hunters has sole hunting rights and contracts with five adjacent communities, which together form our 30 000 unfenced hectare hunting block.

The Matetsi ECA permits night hunting of nocturnal species, however the Matetsi Units do not, which is a significant distinction between the Matetsi ECA and the Matetsi Units.

The ECA has lots of water, excellent game movement, and a success rate that is very close to 100% for all large game species.

The safari area is only a short drive from Robins camp in Hwange National Park and the Victoria Falls International Airport. The hunting area’s proximity to Victoria Falls makes it possible to enjoy day trips and excursions.

Hunting In Matetsi

All our hunting activities are subject to the laws and conditions of the Parks and Wildlife Act. All hunting quotas are issued by National Parks and Wildlife Management, and National Parks representatives are present during all elephant, lion and leopard hunts.

Conservation

Lowveld Hunters endeavor to preserve wildlife by ensuring that local villages benefit directly from safari hunting, in such a way that controlled hunting is of substantial financial benefit.

Community Benefits

The Matetsi camps are owned by local communities and leased by Lowveld Hunters. In addition, the communities receive 70–80% of trophy fees and ¾ of the meat from trophy animals.

Firebreaks

Firebreaks are enforced by law in Zimbabwe and are created by controlled burning and grading. This exercise is vital in protecting against vast habitat destruction by wild fires during the dry season.
